Apple Continuing to Work to Improve iOS Maps App

iphonemapslogo.jpg9to5Mac points out a recently posted job opening on Apple’s corporate site. The job opening is for an iOS Maps Application Developer that will help to “radically improve” the Maps application.
Here’s an excerpt from the post:

Come work for the team that revolutionized the mobile technology industry as it continues define what computing looks like in a post-PC era. The Maps team is looking for an exceptional developer to join us in our mission to radically improve how people interact with maps and location-based services.

We’ve seen this before from Apple. All the way back in 2009, they had a very similar job posting looking for an engineer that could “take Maps to the next level“. Apple in recent years has also purchased small companies such as Placebase and Poly9, both of which focused on location-based services. Plus, as recently as last summer, Apple is now using their own proprietary location services, for user location.

Now is a great time to remind you fine folks that Apple, since the iPhone’s introduction, has relied on Google for their Maps information. It certainly appears that Apple is trying to get away from that. Especially considering that both companies don’t play well together anymore.
