Report Claims that Apple is Already Preparing GM Release of OS X Lion

Mac-OS-X-10.7-Lion_feature.pngTechCrunch is reporting that Apple is already set to release it’s first Gold Master Candidate (developer-speak for near-final release) of Mac OS X Lion the forthcoming major update to OS X. With a Release Candidate moniker in place, it means Apple is more or less done with feature development, and will be focusing on clearing out bugs before giving Gold Master status, and then, of course, release.

This announcement doesn’t surprise me in the least. If Apple hopes to hit their “summer” timeframe they set last October at the “Back to the Mac” media event, then they would have to be winding down development now. Besides, they even released the first developer preview about a month ago. If I had to guess, we’ll see a GM in developers hands at WWDC this June, and a release sometime near August. That’s just a guess on my part though.
