ifoAppleStore is reporting that Apple is set to open a new store in Altmarkt-Galerie in Dresden, Germany. This will be Apple’s fifth store in Germany, and the first in Dresden. This is also Apple’s first store opening in 138 days, which doesn’t sound that long, but considering that their previous longest timeframe without a store opening was only 105 days, you see why it’s noteworthy. Their previous store opening was on November 13th, at the University Park Mall in my home state of Indiana.
An excerpt:

Apple opens the majority of its stores in the pre-Thanksgiving period, with a few construction-delayed stragglers before Christmas. Last year’s final grand opening was on November 13th at the University Park Mall (Ind.) and none have opened since. The previous record for no store openings was set between January 25, 2003 for the Knox Street (Tex.) store, and May 10th for the Walt Whitman (NY) store.

Even though no stores have been opening recently, Apple still appears to be moving forward on their retail plans. In fact, just yesterday a report surfaced claiming that Apple is looking to build a massive store with a “digital library” in Jerusalem, Israel, while also expanding their SoHo store to gain an additional 5000-square feet of space.
