MacRumors is reporting that Apple has lowered the prices of iPod in Australia, in some cases as much as 10%. The report goes on to note that the Australian dollar has gained strength and has is currently matching the U.S. dollar, giving them reason to lower the prices. That said, prices still remain higher in Australia than in the States, mainly do to the inclusion of tax in the price, and Apple’s to leave prices higher in international markets due to higher distribution.

The report also notes that Apple doesn’t do this sort of thing very often, and traditionally waits for new product introductions before changing prices to match currency fluctuations.

Odd move on Apple’s part, but I’m sure our Australian readers are glad to hear it.
