MacRumors is reporting on images that they received from an anonymous source claiming to be of a 5th-generation iPod Touch prototype. The main things to note in these photos is the back panel has a “DVT-1” marking (more on that in a second), 128GB of storage, the return of a connected volume rocker switch instead of the separate buttons on the current model, and a capacitive “touch” home button.

The DVT-1 marking is normally seen on Apple products that are still in internal testing, and is not yet ready for production. That said, and as MacRumors notes, any one of these things could be faked. I tend to believe they’re real, but considering the person who brought these images to light, is handing it to every tech website they can, well, that says something entirely different.
This image also seems to play on previous reports that Apple is trying to get rid of the home button. Here, it would be replaced with a touch sensitive spot. Apple may very well be looking into this, but I tend to think not.
