PatentlyApple has uncovered another Apple patent that describes the 30-pin dock connector we all know and love, that would work with Apple’s own DisplayPort connection, and USB 3.0. Nothing too surprising, but noteworthy nonetheless.

That said, this leads me to wonder- if this new connector uses DisplayPort, will it come with Thunderbolt support as well, seeing as they are so closely intertwined. Besides, Thunderbolt is faster than USB 3.0, and is shaping up to be more flexible.

So, and this is me just speculating, I would expect to see this new connector introduced this fall with the new iPods. Apple certainly needs to do something, because loading all of a users’ content on a new iPod can at times take hours. This would speed things up.
