ProVideoCoalition is reporting that Apple could be preparing to release a new version of Final Cut Pro at the Final Cut Pro Group SuperMeet on April 12th.
An excerpt:
Philip Bloom just confirmed with me that Canon has canceled his appearance at the Supermeet. Canon was told last night that Apple has demanded ALL lecturn or stage time exclusively. Some sponsors who were not using presenters may continue to sponsor the Vegas event, but none of them will be presenting on the stage.
This seems like an odd place for Apple to introduce the new version of Final Cut Pro. Plus, several sponsors including Avid (a competitor in this market) have pulled their sponsorship of this event. Anyway there has been a lot of speculation in recent years regarding Final Cut Studio. Some repots claimed that the product was being repositioned as a “prosumer” application, or canceled altogether. A purported email from Apple CEO squashed those rumors.
The last major version of Final Cut Studio was released in 2009 and is long overdue for a refresh. Also worth noting, the 2011 NAB (another film driven event) will be held at around the same time- April 9-14.
