Research firm Piper Jeffray has put together a survey and found that the number of teen were asked if they owned an iPhone, or if they planned on buying one in the next six months. 17% of the 4500 teen polled said they already had one, with an additional 37% saying they plan to get one in the next six months.
The report goes on to show a number of other interesting things as well. Such as, Apple’s hold on the MP3 market with the iPod. 80% polled said they own an MP3 player, and 86% of those have an iPod. The same poll from a year ago shows however, a decrease. Last year 86% of teens owned an MP3 player, and 92% of that number were iPods. That said, over half of the teens polled stated that they listen to music on their cell phones now.
Lastly, the survey asked how many teens owned a tablet. 22% said they had one and another 20% said they were going to get one in the next six months. Since the biggest selling tablet around at the moment is the iPad, it’s safe to say Apple holds that market as well. At least for teens that is.
I wish my parents had showered me in multi-hundred dollar cellphones when I was a teen.
