DigiTimes is reporting that Apple’s manufacturing suppliers managed to push out somewhere between 2.4-2.5 million iPad 2 throughout March. Granted, Apple started production before March, but considering the device didn’t launch to the public before March 11th. These same manufacturers are planning to ramp up production to some 4-4.3 million units per month, with the aim of 12 million in Q2 in total.
Here’s an excerpt:
Sales of iPad 2 are running at a rate faster than its predecessor, and Apple took delivery of 2.4-2.6 million units in March, the sources noted.
Based on a conservative estimate, Apple is likely to take delivery of 4-4.3 million units a month, or a total of over 12 million units, of iPad 2 tablets in the second quarter, said the sources.
With wait times on the iPad 2 still at 2-3 weeks on the Apple online store, the choke point is still obviously the manufacturers failing to keep up with demand. Additionally, and to my surprise, Apple has remained very quiet about how many iPad 2s that they have sold since the introduction. If I had to guess, it’s an astronomical number.
