Depends on whether 3G is on or off, but I’d say that my 3GS can last a good 16-20 hours if I use it for regular surfing/texting and music playback (walking 40m to and from school), so that’s about 5% per hour? It can really vary, so the point is to try and measure it against your own perceived norms

I haven’t used it myself, but iOS 4.3.2 was released just moments ago. Maybe that will help you out because those sound like some pretty major batt issues 🙁

It was happening to my 3GS which had worked quite well up until I performed update 4.3.1. In fact, my whole phone was riddled with errors (the screen would freeze, touch would be unresponsive and apps would crash constantly) after the update. Then, I noticed while watching a movie that my battery would go from 60% to completely dead and off in 2.5 hours of being on standby. It was absolutely absurd. At the time, I did not realize it was the update that was causing the problem.

I thought it was due to the phone’s age (although I thought it was too early at first) as it was 20 months old or so I just bought the iPhone 4.

However, after doing 4.3.1 on iPhone 4 yesterday, I’m having the same battery life issues. Just this morning (7:30am) my phone was at 100%. It’s now 9:30am and the battery is at 74% and it’s been on stand-by the whole time. My screen brightness is all the way down, auto-brightness off, all my push notifications are off, I kill the apps in the bottom bar when I’m not using them, wireless is off and even turn off 3G when I am in areas with good service. I put my phone on airplane mode about 15 minutes ago to kill all wireless activity and even then, the battery continues to drop now 3% less.

Something is seriously flawed with this update and it’s extremely frustrating to find that the problem was due to Apple’s update the entire time. I am going to do my best to retain my composure at the Apple store today.
