Apple Dumping Best Buy as iPad Retailer? Not so Fast.

135042-best_buy_logo.jpgLate last week a report surfaced claiming that Apple and Best Buy have gotten into a little dispute, and that Apple COO (currently filling in as CEO for Jobs) Tim Cook had Best Buy’s stock of iPad 2s pulled. Reportedly it wasn’t due to the ad that bashed the iPad, but rather Best Buy’s practice to tell customers that they were out of iPad 2 stock for the day, when in actuality they had simply met that day’s sales quota.

Well, a new report has surfaced claiming that this isn’t the case at all. In fact, Best Buy appears to be shoring up stock for big promotion, and there is no beef with Apple. The retailer even went so far as to release a statement to BGR.
Here’s the statement in full:

“Best Buy continues to receive iPad 2 inventory from Apple on a regular basis. As we’ve said previously, we are fulfilling customer reservations first. Our stores have been asked to temporarily hold non-reserved iPad 2 inventory for an upcoming promotion. This is a customary practice for us when there are supply constraints. Best Buy enjoys a great partnership with Apple, and we’re delighted by customer response to iPad 2.”

So, Best Buy is hoarding stock for some big promotion, and Apple doesn’t seem to care one way or another. I sincerely wonder what the promotion might be.
