Digitimes is reporting on comments made by one of Apple’s component suppliers suggest that they haven’t heard anything from Apple in regards to a new model, and thus, there likely won’t be a new iPad this fall as had been rumored. The new iPad would likely come next year at the soonest.
Here’s a quote:
The sources pointed out that they have not yet received any notice for next generation iPad products and do not believe iPad 2 is a transitional product. With iPad 2’s strong shipment order forecast from Apple, the sources believe iPad 3 will not appear in the short term.
Prior to the iPad 2 launch there were rumblings that Apple might do something new, and introduce two iPad models this year. One in the spring (iPad 2) and another new model in the fall alongside the new iPods.
Even though Saint Gruber is normally right, even from the second I heard this, I thought it sounded flaky. It’s too early in the iPad’s life to start introducing new models (a hypothetical “pro” model), and two models in one year is too much for a device selling so well at the moment. When sales slow down, I could see a new model being introduced.
