Tweetdeck iPhone app gets a long-awaited update

photo 2

The wait is over for fans of Tweetdeck for iPhone, the sleek dark column-based twitter client, known for a less than stellar mobile performance. The Tweetdeck dev team have released their long awaited update (or reimagined)  app for iPhone. Version 2.0 completely replaces the older app.

What I like:

  • Optically the app is a real beauty, hands down
  • Combinable feeds e.g. create a feed for all lists
  • If combining global facebook and twitter feeds, fb differentiated by colour (dark blue)
  • subtle yellow side line denoting progress on the time line
  • pinching to minimize the columns
  • if you delete a column, it’s retained in a list so you can restore it easily
  • infinite scrolling (at last!)
  • easy cross-posting (tap on icon to add accounts)
  • the app is pretty speedy – stability finally!

What I don’t like (so far)

  • performance on Edge is still spotty
  • can’t rename my columns (is this obvious and I’m missing it?)

This app revamp excites me WAY more than Tweetbot or Twitter. It’s free so why not give it a whirl?

Tweetdeck is available for free on the App Store.

I am really disappointed in this “update”. I find the UI in this version to be absolutely terrible, offering only control buttons at the top of the screen to do a simple action like reply. Plus the fact you need to open a tweet detail window to perform an action or click on a URL link. Plus, no light-colored theme, no push makes this a very disappointing “redesign”.

On the plus side, I like the swiping to change timelines/lists and the inclusion of bit.ly for longer tweets.

  • Renaming columns will come to 1.0.1. Thanks for noticing all the little details. You’re the first! Though there are still more. Like swiping in user profiles. And the text in the follow slider.

    @Max looking forward to it!

  • I think TweetDeck 2.0 is a worthy alternative to the official Twitter app.
A lot of improvements have been made by the developer team in this new version.
I’ve posted a quick comparison review (head-to-head between the 1.x version and 2.0 version) here: http://bit.ly/eAFwUy
You should check ’em out if you’re thinking of upgrading to the 2.0 version or want to look for alternatives for your current Twitter app.
TweetDeck 2.0 really worths the checking out.

I love this app however I have a problem with reading the replies of someone’s tweet.

I use official TweetDeck App on iOS5 but the problem exists for any other app like Twitter App, HotSuite etc. On the twitter.com website I can read replies to someone’s tweet by people who I do not follow but there is no way to read them in any of the above apps.

On the tweetdeck.com I have found this http://www.tweetdeck.com/support/iphone/#viewconversationhistory but the darker part with the history for the tweet does not show up on mines.

The only workaround I am aware of is to use mobile.twitter.com via Safari but it’s not what I want.

I cannot find a solution anywhere on the web. If any of you guys have sorted it out please post it here or email me at phfeel1@gmail.com
