Listary for iPhone: lists in sync with Simplenote

Posted on 04 May 2011 by Thomas

Simplenote is starting to gain some support as a text-syncing platform, and is no longer just a slick note-taking service. It started out with Notetask and Hidden, and continues now with the release of Listary ($1.99), a new minimal list manager for iPhones.

Listary looks great for organizing quick grocery lists, writing down all the movies you’d like to watch or the books you’re (n)ever going to read, and syncs over-the-air with a Simplenote account. There are also cool little extras, like TextExpander support and a dialogue for entering multiple items quickly.

I haven’t used Simplenote in a little while and was wondering what Listary lists would look like when viewed within the Simplenote app. I feared they would use some sort of complicated formatting, but the developers at Portmanteau informed me via Twitter that list items are simply separated by line breaks, and “done” items start with a slash. That means that it should be easy enough to tick a few items off from within Simplenote on a computer or iPad, in case your iPhone is on vacation at the charger.  If you’d like to find out more about Listary, here are convenient and clickable links to the app website and the App Store.

I highly recommend Listary. I’m kind of a list app connoisseur (I’ve tried lots of them) and Listary is my favorite. It’s clean, simple, elegant, and above all, _fast_. When you want to jot something into a to do list, speed is critical, and Listary just works.
