Marketing firm WPP, in their annual BrandZ study, has found that Apple is the world’s most valuable brand for the first time, by a wide margin. Apple’s brand is now estimated to be worth upwards of $153 billion, which is up 84% from last year. Google, the runner-up, and the company that had been at the top of the list for the past several years, has a value of $111 billion.

The value of a brand isn’t just arbitrarily pulled out of the air. They look at financial and market data, plus the input from over two million surveyed consumers from around the planet. All of this is added together to form a coherent picture of how much a company is worth.

Personally, the most amazing number in the entire report is that Apple’s brand value has risen a massive 859% in the past five years. Yeah, that’s incredible.
