Google Releases Tasks API, Which App Will Support It First?

Google Tasks has been around for a while. It was introduced as part of the Gmail web app and it even has its own mobile web app so that you can manage things on-the-go. The whole system is very simple: you set due dates, put tasks into folders, and then get them done.

However, until recently, there was no API for developers to sync with, so Google Tasks was always a standalone thing that users had to access through very specialized apps, like the Calendars – Google Calendar client. But I’m guessing that other apps will start to pick up on Google as a task syncing service now that the Tasks API is in Labs (pre-beta).

I think this is good news overall, but I’m also not sure that I’d switch over from Toodledo sync with the way things are now. Toodledo’s web UI may not be great, but its task system is robust enough to handle things like priorities and categories — things I’m not entirely sure that Google will even have on its agenda.

In any case, all we can do is wait for the first app to support Google Tasks syncing and then break out the Whine or Champagne then…
