Apple Issues Guide to Avoid/Remove ‘Mac Defender’ Malware, Issuing Software Fix in Coming Days

Apple has posted a knowledge base article, with an official response to the “Mac Defender” malware problem that has been causing a stink as of late. In the next few days, Apple reports that they will be issuing a software update that will remove the malware, and it’s known variants from the system.

Other than describing the malware as a “phishing scam”, the article also gives uses advice on how to avoid “Mac Defender” altogether, and how to remove it manually once you have it on your system.

Again, that same theme is popping up. A story breaks, massive media outcry follows, Apple waits about a week while gathering information, then issues a statement.
