Some iOS Developers Forming Alliance To Fight Lodsys

apples-app-store-icon-o.jpgTAUW is reporting that since Lodsys has sent out legal notices threatening suit over patent infringement, and Apple later issuing a statement claiming that they already pay Lodsys a license, and developers are covered, developers are now teaming up to fight back against Lodsys.

The report notes that Apple has promised in their statement to cover any legal expenses incurred when fighting off Lodsys, so, two development companies that are under attack, Villain, and Iconfactory, have decided to team up to fight back. That said, no legal action has been taken against Lodsys at the moment.

Here’s what Villain CEO Dan Baker had to say on the subject:

“Villain received an infringement notice and we disagree with it. We’re asking all iOS developers who received similar notices from Lodsys to get in touch with me to discuss pooling resources in the event of a lawsuit. Any interested developers can e-mail me at dane@villainhq.com.”

Again, Apple made the right move, and has given their developers some sort of ammunition to fight Lodsys, and other patent trolls off. If Apple hadn’t stepped in, who knows whether these guys would have enough power to fight Lodsys off.
