Amazon Launches Mac Download Store

Screen shot 2011-05-26 at 2.14.59 PM.pngAmazon today launched their new Mac software download store for applications, going directly head-to-head with Apple’s own Mac App Store. They already have some big name software companies signed up, such as Microsoft, EA, Aspyr, and Feral Interactive. The store from launch offers over 250 software titles.

Although their system isn’t tied in as much as the Mac App Store, purchases made through Amazon will act much the same in the sense that they will be tied to user’s Amazon account, and will be downloadable, and re-downloadable on multiple machines for personal use. Software will be issued in individual installers, unlike the Mac App Store which handles the installing and updating itself.

Amazon is shaping up to be quite the competitor.
