It’s not certain how much we have to thank Peter Hajas for with regards to the new iOS 5 notifications, but they’re looking pretty fantastic so far. First off, notifications are no longer inconsistent and obnoxiously interruptive: they pop down from the top of the screen Android-style. All notifications will now pool in one panel, called Notification Center, which is pulled down from the top of the screen – again, just like Android. Finally, the new notifications even extend to the lock screen, with swipe-to-activate gestures that take you right into the relevant apps.
There’s still no word on whether widgets will be allowed in the new Notification Center drawer, though.
