OSX Lion Gold Master Released, Public Release July 14?

Yesterday Apple issued a Gold Master build of OS X Lion to developers in what should be the final stage of prep prior to its impending public release. Lion is the next major update for the Mac OS X operating system, and 9to5Mac has heard from reliable sources that the public release of it will be on July 14th. The prediction comes with the caveat that the launch date could be pushed back if bugs are discovered in the gold master build.

OS X Lion looks like quite a major upgrade for the Mac OS – with eye-catching features like Mission Control, full-screen apps, auto save and versioning, multitouch and other ‘Back to the Mac’ type enhancements, AirDrop, a major makeover for Mail.app, and lots more. I’ve played a little with developer preview builds of Lion and I think it looks very promising, though it will take a little getting used to.

Lion will be released via the Mac App Store and will be priced at just $29.99. I’ll probably give the gold master build a look this week, and will certainly be grabbing the final build when it’s available as long as app compatibility looks good for all my essential apps.
