Apple Sells 1 Million Copies of OS X Lion In First Day of Sales

Screen shot 2011-06-07 at 1.12.05 PM.pngApple has announced that over 1 million users have downloaded OS X Lion within the first day of sales. This of course, makes Lion Apple’s fastest selling OS release to date.

In comparison, in 2005 it took Apple over a month to move two million Mac OS X Tiger copies. Just two years later, Apple shipped Mac OS X Leopard, reaching two million sales in it’s first weekend. Apple never directly announced Snow Leopard sales, but it too was far less expensive than the previous Tiger and Leopard upgrades so it seems reasonable to assume faster sales.

At any rate, I believe the swift sales of Lion are due to Apple’s digital-only distribution of the OS, coupled with the low price tag. I mean, how much better can it get? It’s cheap, and is being delivered straight to you computer.
