TUAW is claiming that Apple could be planning to discontinue the iPod Classic and iPod Shuffle lines of devices, presumably around the same time as next week’s media event.
The report goes on to echo other news sources, and say that iPod touch will see only a minor update, mainly in the form of an introduction of a white model.
It’s also worth noting at this time that the iPod line of devices is accounting for less and less of Apple’s revenue in recent years, do to the iPhone cannibalizing sales. About a year ago then CEO Steve Jobs noted that the iPod Classic was not going away any time soon. Perhaps it will this year. The writings been on the wall for some time.
