iTunes Ripoff Prices for Ringtones & Alert Tones – Also I Just Bought Two, Damn You Apple

Along with the iPhone 4S, iOS 5, and iCloud, another new release from Apple last week is Alert Tones, for use with various types of alert on our iOS devices.

There’s a good range of them on offer – with lots of Star Wars and Sc-Fi related sound effects and short clips.

The thing is though, these new alert tones are priced at $0.99 – for 2 to 4 second mini-clips. Holy smokes – that’s very little bang for your almost buck. Ringtones are now priced at a similarly outrageous $1.29.

I’ve been meaning to do a quick ‘that’s a ripoff’ type post on this for several days. So this morning I went into iTunes on the iPhone 4S to get a screencap or two to go along with the post.

I just took a peek at the Halloween ringtones for screencap material – and ended up buying a chunk of Thriller and the main theme from the movie Halloween.

Anyway, as I was saying – these prices are just silly and nobody should ever buy any of these.

  • Ha! I know what you mean! I thought the exact same thing when I first visited the new Tones store. But I bought a Chewbacca tone for text messages anyway. D’oh!

    • Oh good – glad I’m not the only big sucker for these. As soon as I saw the them for Halloween I was a goner. 🙂

Looks like there are quite a few buyers judging by the screenshots!
I’ve bought some, and like Renkman says, I’ve also made some myself which is pretty simple. A quick Google will tell you how.
So stop whining, and if you don’t like em, don’t buy em.
I don’t like BMW cars, but I don’t moan about how much they cost!
