DigiTimes is reporting that Apple’s new iPad will be shipping in March of 2012. This new iPad will be both thinner and offer longer battery life than the current iPad 2. That said, they claim this update will not be the “real iPad 3”. That update will instead come in Q3 of 2012 at the earliest.
DigiTimes does not go into details regarding the “real iPad 3” update. Where this article fails to elaborate, others have picked up the slack. Previous rumors suggest that the “iPad 3” will have a high-resolution “Retina” display. But recent reports suggest that Apple’s suppliers are having difficulty manufacturing suitable displays for the device.
Take this report with a grain of salt the size of your head. DigiTimes has been increasingly wrong in regards to their rumor reports in recent months. Plus, as I’ve said before, Apple sticks to an annual release cycle for the most part. I can’t see Apple cramming two iPad releases into a single year. Especially if one is merely a size reduction, and another is improved screen. Why not make this one big grandiose update? This defies logic.
