The Mythical TextMate 2.0 Now in Public Alpha

textmatelogo.jpgFor years now, since 2004 in fact, TextMate has been a wildly popular tool for developers, which allows for extensive customization, and other desirable features for users in that line of work.

In 2006 the announcement was made that TextMate 2.0 was on it’s way. Nothing happened for three years, and then a blog post from Odgaard, the creator of TextMate, appeared noting that TextMate 2.0 was nearing completion. Two more years passed, and here we are today.

TextMate 2.0 public alpha has been released today. That being said, MacroMates stresses the point that this is an alpha, and with that, it is not complete, and is buggy. Plus, the alpha is only accessible to TextMate 1.X license holders, and will only run on an Intel Macs.

I’m looking forward to trying out TextMate 2.0 even though I don’t code very often and I don’t even own a copy of TextMate, but now I’m tempted. Let us know what you think. Leave a comment.
