Report Claims Apple Planning a Media Announcement in New York Later This Month [UPDATED]

IBooks_Icon.pngAllThingsD is reporting that Apple is planning an event in New York slated for the end of this month. This event reportedly will not involve the next-generation iPad or the much-rumored Apple Television set, but will rather be a “media-related” announcement.

Apple’s media and advertisement units are located in New York, and the theme of the media event is said to revolve around the subjects of advertising and publishing. Senior Vice President Eddy Cue, who oversees these units at Apple, is said to playing a role at the event.

Although it’s not traditional, Apple has participated in media events in New York. In fact, many years ago the company attended the MacWorld Expo, which held one of their shows in New York. Just last year, Apple made an appearance at the Verizon iPhone introduction, and the launch of News Corp’s The Daily.

TechCrunch is now reporting that the event will not include any new hardware, but rather publishing and iBookstore announcements. One possibility being the introduction of textbooks on the iBookstore– something that the Steve Jobs’ biography noted Jobs was working on before he died.
