iPad Event Planned for Early Next Month, iPad 2 to Continue to Ship Alongside New iPad

They also claim that Apple may demo iOS 5.1, which is currently in developer testing, at the event. If this is indeed what Apple has planned, it would mean that there will be at least a one month gap between introduction and launch.

The timeframe between the iPad 2 announcement and subsequent launch was a mere nine days. A year prior, the original iPad was announced in January, and released in early April of that year.

In a separate report from DigiTimes, they claim they have found Apple’s display shipping plans, and indicate that Apple will continue to be manufacturing iPad 2s alongside the upcoming next-generation iPad. Specifically, they claim that Apple’s suppliers will continue to ship 25 million 1024×768 (iPad 2) display panels, while ramping up production for the higher-resolution 2048×1536 displays destined for the iPad 3. In fact, they expect Apple’s suppliers will pump out 40 million iPad 3 panels.

The introduction and launch timeframe seems right to me. At least not unprecedented. Just as I wrote in my opinion piece, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if Apple continued to sell the iPad 2 alongside the new iPad as a lower-cost option, making the barrier to entry to the iPad family even lower.
