iBooks Textbook Downloads Already at 350,000

AllThingsD is reporting on research conducted by Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research finds that customers have already downloaded some 350,000 iBooks Textbooks from the iBookstore in the first three days they have been available. Over 90,000 copies of Apple’s iBooks Author app were downloaded from the Mac App Store.

Considering there are only eight titles in the textbook section of the store, it seems that this textbook initiative is a success. That said, it remains to be seen how many of those downloads were for the seven textbook titles that are being sold at $14.99 a piece.

The remaining title is a free download that consists of two chapters of E.O. Wilson’s Life on Earth. The remaining chapters will be released at a latter date, and in Apple’s words, be “aggressively priced.” It would be safe to assume that this book, being free and a low barrier to trying out this new concept, was downloaded the most out of all of them. Also, the free titles must offer a free sample of the book, and it remains to be seen if Chowdhry included those sample downloads in this “downloads” number.
