Incredibly, Apple announced the “new iPad” as just that – “The New iPad”. While Apple is known for marching to the beat of it’s own drum, this is a totally unexpected turn of events, especially from a marketing perspective. It begs several questions, such as:
- Could they not decide on a name? I tend to disbelieve this since Apple is famous for having all of its ducks in a row long before a public event such as today’s.
- Does this mean that this is the last iPad, so there’s no need for a name next year? Again, hard to believe, given the products’ success and the various places that Apple could take it to.
- Could Apple want to rub it in the faces of those predicting the “iPad 3”, “iPad HD”, or “iPad 2S”? Perhaps… But that seems a tad extreme, especially for Apple, who doesn’t play around with their marketing at all.
All in all, I’m literally stunned at this turn of events.
So, what do you think? Why did Apple decide to go with essentially no name at all for the new iPad? Let us know in the comments.
