Apple Releases OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Developer Preview 2 to Developers, Apps Now Ask Permission to Access Contacts, Introduce Tab Syncing

mountain-lion.jpgLate last week, Apple seeded Preview 2 of OS X Mountain Lion to developers. Apple has posted an accompanying list of known issues and missing features, which shows that a lot of work still remains before the new OS will be released in “late Summer”.

A few curious bits have been discovered in this new build. First, apps in Mountain Lion now ask for permission to access contact information. This of course, echoes recent changes in iOS that now require permission for private information.

Secondly, as promised, Apple has built in tab syncing in OS X Mountain Lion. This feature has been expected all along, but was only just built into the second preview of OS X Mountain Lion.

Tab syncing is believed to sync open tabs across Mac and iOS devices, in an effort to create a seamless browsing experience.
