I Love Rocket Man for iPhone

I’ve been using Rocket Man on a daily basis ever since I posted on it in February, and although the app can be a little rough around the edges, it has been working very, very well. Thanks to Rocket Man, I can accurately predict the arrival of most any TTC streetcar or bus to within a minute; and should there be any delays, the E.T.A. displayed within the app will update itself automatically. The practical uses for this kind of information are many fold.

I can now take 10 or 15 minutes more doing grocieres, since I know the next streetcar will be arriving in 19 minutes. So, as long as I time things right, I can step out of a Loblaw’s (with two bags of groceries) and right onto a streetcar without breaking stride. Rocket Man also tells me exactly which bus or streetcar is coming, so I don’t end up waiting for the wrong one.

This free app really has optimized the way I travel using public transport around downtown Toronto, and I really can’t recommend it enough. The only real disappointment point is Rocket Man’s icon, which could really use some work. Fortunately, the developer behind the app seems to have acknowledged this, and is currently asking users to vote for a new icon design. You can follow @RocketManApp on Twitter if you’d like to stay in the loop.
