Nokia Smartphone Beta Test Ad

I’ve seen a few of the ads in the new Nokia ‘Smartphone Beta Test Is Over’ campaign now. And every time I see one, apart from having a good laugh, my reaction is just Seriously?

You’re seriously running a campaign that implies everything done by iOS and Android over the last 5 years is kid stuff, now the beta phase is over, and your new phone is the shit. That’s the new phone from the terrible twosome of Nokia and Microsoft – the two big players who have absolutely had their ass handed to them in the smartphone and mobile arena. The two big players who are now tiny, insignificant players in this space, because they’ve been clueless for so long. L. O. Freaking L.

I though RIM had big cojones when they ran their ridiculous ‘Amateur Hour Is Over’ ads for the PlayBook. They came along way late with a clearly way sub-par tablet and they shouted about ending amateur hour. And of course Apple sells more iPads in an hour than RIM sells PlayBooks in a quarter.

Now Nokia and Microsoft have one-upped RIM in the dumbest trash talk ads ever arena. Their ad actually opens with this gem of a line:

The smartphone beta test is finally over. If you used any smartphone in the last five years you were a secret product tester in the greatest social experiment ever undertaken.

Keep smoking whatever you’re smoking to make you so delusional Nokia. Maybe it’ll help to blur the numbers for your tiny share of the smartphone market you claim to be such a leader in. Last I looked, you’re the guys with under 5% of the market while Android and iOS have over 80%.
