Ping. Does Anyone Use Ping, Ever?

Have you been doing a lot of Pinging lately? Not pinging like ‘ping google.com’ to test your connectivity, you know using Ping to tell all your friends about music you’re listening to.

You remember Ping right? Apple’s ‘social network for music’ launched back in September of 2010. Honestly, I had completely forgotten about Ping until a couple days ago. I used it a few times right after it launched to ‘follow’ a few bands I like – but for me it suffered from the worst ailment that can afflict any social network: none of my friends or acquaintances were on it. And when that’s the case you’re basically playing round in a virtual echo chamber.

I have used a few other apps that let you share songs you’re listening to over the years, and recently started using Spotify – which I love so far and sometimes use for shouting out about a track I like.

Anyway, I ‘m just a little curious – am I missing the boat on Ping? Is it massively popular and I just haven’t noticed, or is it one of these rare swing and a miss situations for Apple? Do you use it? If so, how often or for what?
