Cobook: A Smart Address Book For Your Mac

Cobook is a free contact manager that lives in your Mac’s menu bar, making it easy for you to check or update contact details with just a few quick keystrokes. The app always loads up with an active search field, so all you need to do is click and then type. Cobook is also smart enough to link up with your Twitter and Facebook accounts, so that you can quickly drag and drop details from people’s established profiles, right into your own local contacts database.

I’ve given this app a quick look today and really like its clean, windowless style. It reminds me a bit of Fantastical, but for contacts, instead of calendar events. Cobook feels lightning fast, thanks to its quick search capabilities, and the way that contact details appear when you mouse over them (no clicks required). I also like how it parses phone numbers, e-mails, and addresses while I view a contact – which means fuddling with fewer menus and buttons overall.

I haven’t yet linked my Twitter or Facebook accounts to the app (I like choosing contact pictures myself), but I think I’ll be keeping Cobook around for a little while. I just moved all of my contacts from Google to iCloud, so there are all sorts of little details that Cobook can help me fix.
