Yesterday, at an All Things D interview, Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher interviewed Apple CEO Tim Cook, wherein he hinted at forthcoming features in their existing technologies. First was news of possible Facebook integration.
For awhile now it was thought that Apple and Facebook had been in negotiations. Since then, Apple has integrated Twitter into iOS as a system-wide service. Cook was asked about their relationship with Facebook, and hinted that their might be news on the horizon. Here’s the quote:
For us, we want to provide customers simple and elegant ways to do the things they want to do. Facebook has hundreds of millions of customers. So, anyone that has an iPhone or iPad, we want them to have the best experience with Facebook on those platforms. So stay tuned.
Cook was then asked about Siri, and it’s shortcomings. He responded by saying it is a very popular feature, and there will be more coming in the future, and that they have a lot of people working on the feature. More will be coming over the next few months.
So Apple and Facebook are talking, which will likely lead to system-level integration of Facebook in iOS and they are also working on bettering Siri. To me, none of this strikes me as a revelation. Hopefully they’ll blow us a way with new Siri features.
