Fieldrunners 2 is now available for $3 on the iPhone. The original Fieldrunners was the very first tower defense game I purchased on the App Store, and definitely one of the best. The long-awaited sequel features more tower variety, more enemies to hold the line against, and multi-tiered levels to fight on. Some of the game’s screenshots look to be almost bursting at the seams with on-screen enemies, and as a tower defense player, there’s nothing I find more exciting than a little bit of shepherding, and then a lot of annihilating.
Fieldrunners 2 has also been getting solid reviews on gaming sites like Kotaku and Pocket Gamer, although some of the feedback points to this game being just a little too meaty for a quick subway or bus ride. Then again, on an App Store filled with quick one-tap titles, heftier gameplay is something that should be lauded instead of chastised.
It’s just a pity the iPad version will be sold separately, and at a later date.
