Not everybody was as excited for the release of OS X Mountain Lion as I was, but it was intriguing to find out what our team members were looking forward to in this latest OS update. The following are quick paragraphs listing the thoughts (good and bad) of our various iSource writers:

I’ll be downloading ML from the moment it’s available. I’ll be backing
my Mac up later tonight and shelling out $20 tomorrow for lovely new
features like Notification Center, the updated Mail app, the crazy
yummy new Safari, and AirPlay mirroring. I feel like Mountain Lion
will give my Mac a new lease on life, and the new 7200 RPM hard drive
I installed a few months ago should help to ensure that everything
runs smoothly and quickly.

I have a MacBook from work since we are now supporting them in a limited capacity (thanks iPad) so I’ll be downloading it pretty much right away. We have a couple MacBooks which qualify for the free download (recent purchases) which makes updating a no-brainer for those systems. Honestly for me this is more of a “support” download than anything else. I’m looking forward to a few features (notifications, reminders) but overall my bigger concern is knowing the answer when someone comes to me with a problem. Cost is another reason updating is something I had planned on doing anyway. $20? That’s impulse buy price… unlike some other OS updates coming this year which shall remain nameless.

I will be purchasing Mountain Lion the instant it is available. For me, the most exciting features are those that are not immediately noticed by most users. Power Nap, the features that allows your Mac to receive updates in the background, seems really nice. I am also looking forward to the greater iCloud integration with notes, reminders, and other little odds and ends. Not to mention the introduction of iCloud documents on the Mac. That’s not to say I am not looking forward to the other features, but these are the ones I am sure will most improve my workflow and experience.

I have been looking forward to Mountain Lion for a long while now and would love to be among those grabbing it as soon as it’s available – and as Brandon says the price is great.
But … I’ll be sitting it out for at least a few days and maybe for a few weeks – for two reasons. Firstly, last time I checked two apps that are absolutely essential for me (OmniFocus and Parallels) are not yet tested and confirmed as compatible, and also because I’d rather get a feel for whether there are any major issues with the initial public release and if there are how severe any of them might be.
So I’ll be living vicariously through some of the rest of the team for at least a little while.

As a proud new owner … err … I mean worker-bee whose budget had to be spent in the nick of time, the new MacBook Pro will probably sport Mountain Lion as an upgrade as soon as I get a go ahead. The funny thing for me is that I’ve only had Lion OS since the acquisition on the Retina MBP, so I’m just now catching up – on being behind.

Like Patrick I’ll be waiting a bit. The servers are bound to be jammed anyway if it’s anything like last year’s iOS upgrade [Ed.: It wasn’t – downloads were quick and easy]. I don’t feel like waiting for hours for the thing to download and install. Also only the hubby’s MBP is compatible. My 2007 black Macbook is not. And cash is not yet there for a new machine. Patience is a virtue.

I’ll be downloading Mountain Lion later tonight as soon as I get home from work. This might be the last time I can update my current 2008 MBP, so hopefully it’s a stable update. I won’t get to enjoy some of the more desirable features like Power Nap, but I’m still excited to have Notification Center, syncing of notes and reminders, Voice Dictation, sharing, and especially AirPlay. I also plan on updating my RAM, too because I’m lagging behind big time, and I have a feeling Mountain Lion will only make thing worse.

I will probably upgrade today. The best feature thus far is voice dictation, and I am very interested in seeing how iCloud and other iOS collaboration will benefit my productivity. However, without the ability to reach iCloud stuff from Windows… we’re not 100% there yet. If I can get good workflows going between the MBA, iPad, and iPhone, then I will investigate options for my WinPC.
