Quick Look: Mug Case for iPhone 4S

The $22 iPhone 4S Mug case is strange. Oh, so very strange. Mine looks like a green mug if you view it from behind, but turn it around and you’ll find that it’s actually a silicone case housing an iPhone 4S. But as unusual as it is to have a case in this form factor, the makers of the Mug case have actually packed a surprising amount of functionality into this, uh, silicone cup:

  • a Mug case can stand upright all on its own, something a lot of other iPhone cases cannot do
  • depending on which way you lie it down, the Mug case is great for alarm clock apps, or for watching videos at a desk
  • and while I wouldn’t wrap my earphone cords nearly as tightly as in the Mug promotional video, you can wrap earphone cables around the handle for convenient storage

Unfortunately, it’s tough to recommend this case to anyone who doesn’t tote around a large bag at all times, because – surprise, surprise – the Mug will not fit into any regular-sized pants pocket. If you’d like to run your very own Mug simulator, place your next Starbucks Latté inside of your jacket and check your comfort level – you probably won’t like it. You also won’t be able to take any pictures while using the Mug case, although it is very easy to take the 4S out again.

I received my Mug as a gift and think it’s hilarious, but I only ever really use it at home because of its very peculiar dimensions. If you’re interested, or you just really want your smartphone to look more like your coffee, check out the official Mug website here.
