Cool Things: Spring Sushi Uses An iPad As Its Menu

Spring Sushi is the first Toronto restaurant I’ve visited that makes use of the iPad in a way that really makes sense. Once you’ve been brought to your table, a server will come over to you with an iPad and explain  how to order dishes via the tablet. The size, quantity, and appearance of each dish are detailed on iPads in ivory white cases, and a convenient order status section shows you exactly what your order includes. Once you’re ready to actually order, one tap of a button will bring your server over to finalize everything (and to make sure you didn’t order way too much).

The system could easily have been a gimmick, but I’ve been to Spring Sushi three times now and it’s actually a lot of fun to pore over the menu with friends and family. Laminated menus would have worked just as well, but the iPad adds enough of a spark of fun to the Spring Sushi experience to make it worthwhile. If you’re in Toronto, head to the location at Yonge/Dundas at lunchtime to take advantage of the $15 buffet special.
