In a last minute report, 9to5Mac has shed some light on details that will be announced later today. In this report, they are outlining some of the marketing changes that will be announced by Apple.
First off, the report claims that Apple will be referring to the new, smaller dock connector, as “Lightning”. Going on Apple’s trend of naming their IO connectors- the prime example being their Thunderbolt connector, this new naming scheme suggests speed, so the new connector may incorporate USB 3 or Thunderbolt (I doubt it) technology.
Next up, are the purported new headphones that will presumably be included with these new devices. These new headphones will reportedly have an “Earpod” name and will sell for the same $29.
Lastly, it is being reported that a new “Loop” accessory will launch alongside the new iPod touch. It is currently unknown what this device will do, but it will likely sell for around $10, so, based on Apple’s high peripheral pricing, it can’t do much.
The report finishes up by saying Apple will indeed keep the lower-end iPod touch around, but will be bumping its storage capacity to 16GB. They also note that the iPod shuffle will stay at 2GB capacities, and will be offered in the following colors: blue, green, pink, purple, red, silver, slate, and yellow.
It sounds like we’re in for an exciting ride, as far as iPod announcements are concerned.
