This is my first iPhone and can’t wait to get rid of the Windows Phone crap I was suckered into getting. I was a little worried I would not get my phone on the 21st after reading all the news on the net however today I received my tracking number from AT&T confirming it will be here tomorrow (21st) by 4:00 pm.
Note: I did set my alarm for 3 am to place my order but didn’t wake up, glade I don’t have to stand in line for days, which I would not do anyway.
I upgrade phones every 2 years and can’t wait to get my first iPhone!

I ordered at 3:52a.m. EST and mine says October 5th as well… I am thinking about checking the local lines this morning and if I am in the first 10, cancelling my pre-order… I am with AT&T, but I pre-ordered through Apple… My concern is whether or not my Upgrade Eligibility will update before the store opens in the morning at 8a.m.

Anyone have any ideas on this and should I risk it or wait?

Thanks!

My confirmation email showed up a few minutes later with two weeks shipping, delivery date Oct 5. WTF???! I ordered 47 minutes in to preorder start. What’s up with that. If I missed it for delivery on 9/21 I at least expected to get it a week later on 9/28, but noooooo, it will be a week later…. That bites…

I am eligible for an upgrade through ATT, tried placing an order through Apple and ATT site. Both the sites took the orders and sent me confirmation numbers. So I am recieving two Iphone5 phones for a single number upgrade. Will keep one and sell the other.Cool right, brand new iphone5 for 200$.

It still states that it is processing so I am holding out hope I may still get it early. I have contemplated canceling that order and go wait in line at AT&T but I am not sure.

Processing is the step before they get it ready to ship. I ordered through AT&T last year, and I do remember it being in the processing stage for a few days. I was worried at the time because I had friends who ordered through Apple.com, and their orders were getting ready to ship, or Apple listed them as shipped already. I received my iPhone 4S on the same Friday as they did. If there is a ship date listed, I wouldn’t be too worried. Keep an eye on it the next few days, the status will most likely change soon.

I got the order confirmation email but it still remains “processing.” I’m afraid it hasn’t fully processed into their system and I won’t be getting the iPhone on release date. :[ Do you know anything about this?

That is what I was told when I went into a AT&T store a couple of weeks before the iPhone 5 was available for pre-order. I am in the exact same boat as you. I had an iPhone 4S with an unlimited data plan. I am the main person on our account–not sure if that matters. I was told that I need to bring the phone into the store (make sure it’s a Corporate AT&T store, btw) and they would switch it over to my existing plan. Don’t connect to iTunes or call the 1-800 number included in the box to activate. Just bring it in.

So Renkman…Will ATT switch the data plan and phone number if I take it in? I have a 4S on an unlimited plan. She wants the the 4S with the plan she has and I want the iphone 5.

Could be worse, like you said. A least you have 30 days to sign up after your new iPhone arrives.

I want it. I tried to add it to the cart and it said I could add it from the cart.
Not so via the iPhone app.
This, of course, means I get to make a trip to the nearest Apple store for a Genius to look at my brand new iPhone 5 so I can purchase in-person.

Could be worse I guess…mine should arrive on 9/21. I was up at 1:58 a.m. CDT and received my confirmation email at 2:05 a.m. CDT.

My experience with shipping and billing info needing to match was the case only when placing the order. In my experience, and from others I have heard from today, you can always go back into your order and change the shipping address after your order is placed. I had to do that very thing last year because I was going to be out of town for the delivery of my iPhone. I changed the shipping info to another address, and the taxes changed to account for the different state I was going to be receiving it in. I had no problems with my delivery.

On a family plan with mother-in-law. She rents her place and does bill pay on line so not a true address we can use to ship stuff too. They won’t ship to anything other than billing address.

I tried calling them, waited on hold 20 minutes, got half way through an order, and woman tells me her system has timed out and started over again, but then hung up on me instead. Had to call back.

When called back, found out can only ship to billing address. So looks like I’m just going to have to wait in the store.

Not best system. What if on a family plan and one family member in CA and another in PA?

However, I kept getting timeouts at the checkout at the very end of the process. After 20 minutes of retries, I decided to back up and try something different. I then logged onto the Apple website via my iPad, and was done within 5 minutes, with no delays or retries.

As I recall, this is about as smooth as the last iPad release. Well, except for the whole getting up at 3AM part. I really hope Apple takes immediate preorders right after the reveal next year.

I then ordered an iPhone for a friend (using their credentials) and that, too, went smoothly.

I’m glad I ordered early!

Couldn’t have been an easier experience.
