iOS 6 has only been out for a few hours, but I can already talk about one of my favourite features: the share menu. I’ve been enjoying the crap out of this feature on Mountain Lion, and I’m even happier to see it on iOS. You can find the share menu in apps like Photos and Safari, and it’s great for quickly exporting or sharing your content, without having to jump between all sorts of apps.
Here’s how I used to share a Safari URL with a friend in iOS 5:
- Scroll up or tap on the status bar to bring up the address bar
- Tap on the address bar, wait a moment for text to become selectable
- Two-finger tap the URL to select all of it
- Tap Copy
Here’s how easy it can be in iOS 6:
- Tap on the Share Menu on the bottom toolbar (accessible at any time)
- Tap Copy
The same actually goes for the changes to the new YouTube app (currently iPhone-only). I used to have to “mail a link” simply to get a URL I could send to others, but now all I have to do is tap share and then “Clipboard”, and I’m all ready to go.
Reducing the friction of small tasks that we execute tens or hundreds of times a week – this is what iOS 6 seems to excel at.
