Crazy iOS Numbers: 100 Million

Yesterday Apple announced it had sold 5 million of its new iPhone 5 just 3 days after it was released. Some ‘analysts’ were disappointed by this figure, despite the fact that it’s a substantial increase even over the monster launch weekend numbers for the previous iPhone 4S. I’ll leave it to others to debate how impressive or unimpressive that number is.

Here’s another number revealed by Apple yesterday that is undeniably and hugely impressive:

100 Million. As in:

… more than 100 million iOS devices have been updated with iOS 6, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system.

That’s an incredible number of updaters just 5 days after iOS 6 was released on September 19. It’s further highlighted by reports like one from the developers of the popular Pocket offline reading app, stating that over 60% of their users are already on iOS 6.

Just for a little perspective, as MG Siegler points out: Google released Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) just about a year ago. It still doesn’t have 25% penetration.
