Philip Elmer-DeWitt of Fortune’s Apple 2.0 blog, is reporting on a flimsy lead, and suggests that Apple will begin sending out invitations on October 10th for an iPad mini launch event. If Apple’s past media event habits are any indication of what they might do this month, sending the invitations out on October 10th, would likely lead to the event being held in the middle of the following week.
Of course, the “iPad mini” is the much-rumored, smaller, 7.85-inch iPad that would compete with Google’s Nexus 7 and Amazon’s Kindle Fire. It is also expected that this new device will have a form-factor that differs from the current iPad design, and will cost less than current iPad models.
