Over the past few days a couple of reports have surfaced regarding the rumored “iPad mini”. First, Macotakra is reporting that they have received a tip claiming that Foxconn’s facility in Brazil has begun production of the iPad mini. This does not sound unreasonable, considering that other reports claim iPhone and iPad production is ramping up in Brazil.
In other, more exciting news, UkrainianiPhone has posted several photos which they claim are of the new iPad mini. The parts shown are the back case (which shows off the device’s cellular capabilities) and the white front panel. They also posted a photo of the purported device display, but that appears to be a Kindle Fire LCD panel.
The back case shows a headphone jack in the upper left edge of the device, similar in placement to the headphone jack on the iPad. There is also a black plastic strip along the top edge of the back, much the same as the cellular-capable iPads. Lastly, there is a SIM tray on the right edge, and a Lightning connector on the bottom.
The front panel shows off narrowed edges on the left and the right, and holes for the home button and FaceTime camera.
The iPad mini is expected to be announced sometime this month, with one recent report claiming that invitations would for the announcement event would be sent out on October 10th.
[UPDATE] A new report from the Wall Street Journal is claiming that Apple has indeed begun mass production of the iPad mini.
