13-Inch Retina MacBook Pro to Start Around $1699, Photos Emerge

9to5Mac reported late last week that they have received pricing information for the soon-to-be-released13-inch Retina MacBook Pro. The report claims that the entry-level model will be priced somewhere around $1699, which is $500 over the non-Retina model Apple is keeping around.

If this tidbit of information holds true, an odd pricing scheme will emerge. The extra $500 for the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro compares a little unevenly to the $400 premium seen on the entry-level 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro (compared to it’s non-retina counterpart). The higher-end 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro has a $600 premium over it’s non-retina counterpart, but this is likely due to the more expensive 512GB of flash storage that comes built in.

In other related news, a forum poster on Chinese site WeiPhone.com has updated their original post with new photos showing the assembly of the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro. The photos show the battery layout, all of the ports on the left and right sides. These photos are of unusually high quality for a leak, which lends some credibility to the post.

The poster has even released a photo comparing the the MacBook Air to the newMacBook Pro, which looks stunningly similar.

If there was any doubt, it seems that Apple will be releasing a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro in the very near future, likely tomorrow at Apple’s planned media event. We’ll keep you posted on all of the news right here at iSource, so stay tuned.
