Today, Apple announced today that there are over 1.5 million books on the iBookstore and 400 million books have been downloaded since the store’s inception.

To help further grow the store, Apple introduced a series of improvements to iBooks. First, over 40 new languages will be supported in this new version, including Korean and Japanese. You can also share passages from a book on Twitter and Facebook right from within the app. The new version of iBooks also offers better iCloud support, so you can better pick up where you left off reading on another device.

Apple also updated iBooks author with new templates, user-included fonts, mathematical expressions, multitouch widgets, and the ability for publishers to remotely update their books.

Both of these updates are available today.
