Learning to use Siri isn’t just about getting used to dictating and spitting out voice commands (however natural they may claim to be) – it’s also about getting over or reducing the stigma associated with talking to your computer and having it respond out loud.
One thing that might help you out, provided you’re not using Siri with a Bluetooth or wired headset, is to simply adjust Siri’s volume. The only way I know how to do this is to summon Siri by holding down the Home button (or using Raise to Speak) and then using the iPhone’s volume buttons to get Siri to lower its voice. Lowering Siri’s volume affects all of the AI’s spoken prompts and dictation or confirmation beeps. I’ve set Siri to about 40% of the maximum, which is loud enough for me to hear, but not quite so loud that my neighbours notice me discussing my dentist appointment with my smartphone.
