I’ve been trying out a different way of holding my iPad mini by using the mini Smart Cover as a make-shift handle. Instead of simply folding the entire cover behind the iPad mini, I’m folding the Smart Cover back, and then collapsing it on top of itself, like an accordion. I then grip the iPad mini with my left hand, using the cover as a handle. The magnets are strong enough to keep the whole setup stable, and I’m finding this grip makes it easier to hold the iPad mini in one hand, instead of stretching my hand out and palming the device.
The only possible downside I can see is that this may keep my cover from lying perfectly flat on top of my iPad mini’s screen, if the Smart Cover is gradually bent over time. I’ve been doing this for at least two weeks now and haven’t seen any signs of permanent damage (and the cover still lies flat), but you’ve been warned.
